Floor Plan
This floor plan utilizes all the solar concepts discussed in the following sections. The beauty of starting with a blank page is that you can do just what is right for your family, but there are still trade-offs.
With my need to have our bedroom on the first floor and my desire to minimize exterior walls per volume, one problem I did have was “extra” space on the second floor. This house could easily accommodate a family with four kids – two boys and two girls or all one or the other – with the large second floor bedrooms and split bath. I could have cut the space by eliminating the shed dormer, but then I would have pretty much eliminated the sun up stairs.
